The majority of athletic training usually focuses on strength and conditioning. One key element that is typically overlooked is cognitive training or brain training as we like to call it. Athletic performance improves tremendously when cognitive capacity and the body function together. We focus on training areas that can impact performance by improving the decision making needed to become more efficient and effective in those situations.
Cognition is the mental function of gathering knowledge and processing it into usable information. Cognitive abilities are used daily to think, remember and problem solve. When this is applied to sports it can help athletes track player and ball movements, recognize patterns and anticipate the movements of others. It allows them to develop strategic awareness and make quicker situational decisions that can positively impact performance.
Our cognitive training program focuses on training the brain to read, recognize and react to situations quicker. This is accomplished by training it at higher than actual game speeds to optimize reaction time. When these abilities are increased in athletes, it allows them to process and perform at a different level. They are able to make efficient decisions much faster. The game literally starts to slow down for them.
